Facebook Advertising Tips

Facebook is an excellent tool for businesses to expand their reach to a wider audience. To make the most out of your Facebook experience, it’s important to understand how advertising on Facebook works.

It is important to note that all advertisements will be reviewed by Facebook to ensure they follow Facebook’s advertising policies. According to Facebook, the most common reasons ads don’t get approved is because their images contain too much text, they incorrectly reference Facebook in their ads, or their advertisements are inappropriate for a young audience.

Thankfully, these problems are easy to avoid if you understand Facebook’s policies.

Text Cannot Cover More than 20 Percent of Image

Facebook may not approve ads that include images with text covering more than 20 percent of the image area. To find out if your image meets Facebook’s requirements, you can upload your image using Facebook’s Image Text Check to find out how much text your advertising image includes. According to Facebook, advertisements that contain a significant amount of text in an image may not reach its full audience.

Rules for Mentioning Facebook in an Ad

If you refer to Facebook in your advertisement, you should not use the Facebook logo instead of the word “Facebook,” include an altered version of the Facebook logo in your image, or use Facebook as a verb, abbreviation or plural. It is fine to use Facebook in your ad as long as you use a capital F and display the word “Facebook” in the same text style and font as the surrounding content.

Ads for Products Inappropriate for Young Audiences

If you don’t limit the scope of your targeted ad to an age-appropriate audience, your Facebook ad won’t get approved. As an example, if you’re posting advertisements for alcohol or other items that cannot be legally purchased by consumers who have not reached a certain age, they must be appropriately restricted to the appropriate age group.

Other Considerations

Facebook prohibits advertisements that promote the sale or use of drugs, tobacco products, unsafe supplements, weapons, ammunition, explosives, and adult products or services. Sexually suggestive, shocking or excessively violent content is also prohibited.

These are just a few of Facebook’s considerations. Before you create a Facebook ad, make sure you read up on Facebook’s advertising policies to make sure your ad is compliant.
