How Does “Boosting” Posts on Facebook Work?

Did you know that you can “boost” your posts on Facebook? Boosted posts show up higher in users’ News Feeds, making the posts more visible to your audience. Boosted posts may also appear on Instagram.

What Is a Boosted Post?

Facebook lets businesses boost almost any type of post, as long as the post complies with Facebook’s advertising policies. Boosted posts will appear in a user’s News Feed as a “Sponsored” post. These boosted posts show up higher in the News Feed, increasing the chances that a Facebook user will see it and engage with the post.

Although people who have “liked” your page may be able to see your posts, they represent just a tiny sample of your potential customers. Boosted posts allow businesses to target certain posts to a wider audience. They increase your company’s visibility and generate fresh engagement. You can also target your post to users based on location, gender, age and interests.

How Do I Boost a Post?

To boost a Facebook post, simply click “Boost Post” in the lower right-hand corner of the post you wish to promote. You will then be prompted to choose the type of audience you wish to target, how many people you would like your post to reach and how much money you want to spend on the promotion. You can also choose how long you want your sponsored post to run.

How Much Does Boosting a Post Cost?

For ad sets with automatic bidding, the minimum daily budget is $1.00 (USD). This daily budget must be at least 2 times your cost per click (CPC) bid. For example, if you have a $1.00 CPC bid, your daily budget must be at least $2.00. CPC is the amount you’re charged each time someone clicks on your ad. Your total charges are based on the amount you spent on the ad divided by all clicks the ad received.

For ad sets with bidding you handle manually, the minimum daily budget is $1.00 and must be at least 5 times your cost per click (CPC) bid. For example, if you have a $1.00 CPC, your daily budget must be at least $5.00.

You can also set an account spending limit in which you set an overall spending limit. Your ads stop running once your account spends the amount you’ve set. These budgeting and targeting tools give you a lot of control over your ad campaign, and allow you to spend just a small amount of money and track your results.

Why Should I Boost a Facebook Post?

There are many benefits to boosting Facebook posts. Social media engagement is an important marketing strategy for businesses today. Boosting a post on Facebook allows businesses to access a much wider audience than they normally reach. Not only does your content get seen by a bigger audience, but these sponsored posts increase your company’s brand awareness, boost website traffic and increase engagement through comments, likes and shares. You can also boost a post that promotes a new product or an event that is sponsored by your company.

What Makes a Boosted Post Successful?

As with any post on social media, a successful post is one that gets noticed. The amount of engagement a Facebook post receives can be measured by the number of likes, shares and comments it receives. To maximize the chances that your boosted post will be noticed by people who are unfamiliar with your brand, it is important that the post catches the eye. The image you select will be the first thing the user sees, so it is important to use a high-quality and appropriately sized image.
