Limelight Department Hosting Improves Performance and Security

If you want to stay ahead of the competition, you must embrace change. We’re dedicated to exceeding our clients’ expectations, and making improvements to our datacenter infrastructure is a crucial part of that.

Marketing, web design, and website development is a competitive industry, and it moves quickly. Our recent changes exceed hosting and security best practices, and the benefits are passed along to our clients. Here’s a quick breakdown of the improvements.

1. We now have PHP 7 support.
PHP 7 is now the top choice for web developers. Its performance and reduced memory consumption are capable of handling the speed of the modern marketplace.

Moving to PHP 7 results in substantial performance improvements for WordPress. Speed matters, and WordPress thrives on PHP technology. On servers powered by PHP 7, websites load faster, e-commerce transactions happen in the blink of an eye and powerful applications deliver results seamlessly to countless visitors.

2. We’re now using OPcache.
OPcache is a premium cache engine integrated with PHP. It boosts performance by keeping PHP scripts in memory, allowing larger websites to process more requests with less response time.

This means that PHP doesn’t need to load and parse requests each time an application on your website is used. It can find the necessary instructions in shared memory, speeding up response time considerably.

3. In addition to the ClamAV which we’ve always used, we’re using ConfigServer Security & Firewall.

Providing top quality security is one of our primary goals for clients that use our servers. Security keeps both businesses and customers safe and active.

ConfigServer Security & Firewall is a firewall configuration script that provides some of the best security available for servers. This server-level firewall features a number of C-Panel improvements. It detects and tracks failed login attempts from IP addresses, helping to monitor security threats from bulk attempts from a single origin. Its monthly scans allow us to know about any new security threats and goes the extra step of explaining how to fix it.

4. We have automated daily, weekly and monthly backups.
Backups of online material are crucial for retaining valuable information. We want to provide our clients with the best performance available on the market, so automated backups are at the top of our list.

Our recent improvements mean your content undergoes automated daily, weekly and monthly backups that are stored on our own separate backup server. That’s an incredible value for our clients. The peace of mind and security means clients can focus on running a profitable business, knowing that their data is fully secure.

5. All C-Panel, email, and FTPS connections are now secured.
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the industry standard for keeping online activity like eCommerce transactions safe and secure. It takes important data like passwords and credit card information and encrypts it in a way that only the website and process. SSL certificates also authenticate websites, making sure that online customers are doing business on secure websites.

Our servers provide SSL security by default. It’s the most trusted way to secure transactions, and having it boosts search rankings and helps customers feel at ease as they browse your products and services. Comfortable customers means more sales and a better reputation.

6. We now receive immediate email notifications.
One of the primary features of good security is a reliable notification process. Automated alerts for performance and security are now sent directly to our IT staff. That means faster response times to keep security tight and transactions secure.

As a business owner, it’s crucial that you know any unusual activity on your website is being monitored. We’ll receive instant notification if any of the following are taking place:

  •  New IP addresses accessing C-Panel, WHM, FTP and SSH
  •  Spikes in server performance (CPU, Memory, Disk I/O)
  •  Changes to system files
  •  Warnings when a website gets near their quotas (disk space, bandwidth, and email space)
  •  When an important process goes down, and when it comes back up
  •  An IP address was blocked from a firewall

7. Our servers now use SSDs.
SSD (Solid-state drive or solid-state disk) has become the best solution for file storage. Our server now utilizes SSD technology to give our clients file storage that’s fast and reliable.

Traditional hard drive disk storage, or HDD, uses mechanical parts and magnetized disks for storing and retrieval of files. Because it doesn’t rely on these moving parts, SSD is quickly moving ahead of HDD technology in terms of speed and reliability.

SSD storage offers an increase in speed over the traditional HDD storage options. HDD file storage can grow crowded over time, resulting in slow speeds because of fragmented files. This isn’t an issue for SSD technology. Files are written to be accessed quickly, regardless of storage capacity.

At Limelight Department, we’re obsessed with the latest technology. Staying ahead of the competition means utilizing the best security and storage options. Hosting your website with our powerful servers allows you to have the best security and performance available.
